Why do we need Nature Therapy?

Nature Therapy is one of the ways that we can regulate our nervous system, and with all that we have going on in the world right now, most of our nervous systems are unregulated or dysregulated. A dysregulation of our nervous system can lead to mental, emotional, and physical health issues. So, when we practice nature therapy, it keeps our nervous system regulated, and this allows us to make the best decisions we need to for our lives and to have the energy and focus we need to function throughout the day.

Nature Therapy benefits anyone of any age and you're never too old and never too young to start nature therapy! Starting nature therapy at a younger age though can be beneficial because it establishes healthy habits that will continue with us into adulthood. Sure we see kids who seem to play fairly well outside and we think they’ll be fine for a long time, but have you noticed that at some point kids don't really want go outside anymore? My theory, is that the shift of spending less time in nature happens when kids stop saying, “I want to play with my friends” and start saying, “I want to hang out with my friends”. In my opinion, that's the transition of when kids are losing the desire to be outside. Now, if we're able to help kids to learn these habits and teach them why they're important, they are more likely to continue those habits on throughout their preteen, teen, and adult years. Of course they'll still need encouragement from their parents to do these things. Luckily it doesn’t take a huge amount of effort on anyone’s part, just a little bit everyday doing one or more of each pillar. To read more about each pillar click here.

A word of warning! Don’t slip into doing all of these things inside. It’s great during times of harsher weather that we have the ability to do Nature Therapy inside, but nothing can replace being outdoors in nature. We will see our best success of nervous system regulation when we are outside. If you are still needing help with implementing Nature Therapy in your life, check out my events page here or contact me to schedule some private classes.

May you have sunshine over your head and earth beneath your feet, always.
